Having a Party

Teaching is a lot like putting together a party.  Seriously though, think about it! Normally, there is one host at a party who is in charge of making sure that everything goes right and that people know what is going on.  Sometimes at parties, the host puts on creative games, has party favors or serves food.  Much like a teacher who must be prepared with their lesson plans, know what to say when the students arrive to their classrooms, and be prepared to answer questions, make sure everything goes right, put together creative activities to go with the lesson, and of course leave them with homework at the end of the day, not always much like a party favor, but the similarity certainly is there.
In my personal opinion, it's almost like education and teaching should be like a party.  More often than not, children go to school feeling like it's a chore and that they are not going to have any fun at it.  I think adding elements of fun and appealing that would normally be used for a party would be a good idea for teachers just as long as they modify it appropriately and whatnot.

I would say that one of the three things that struct to me from taking this course were all the different kinds of education systems that are offered, such as Waldorf Education.  I felt that this had a wonderful curriculum in which did well in appealing to all learners and although I don't plan on becoming a teacher, I know that if I were to, elements of this curriculum would definitely be applied to my own curriculum.

Another thing that I learned was how flawed and out to date the American Education system truly is.  I think it helped me to make sense of why sometimes I feel as though I did not get the proper support I needed during my years of schooling.  That was why I really enjoyed learning about the different sets of education in other countries like Norway.

Lastly I learned about different kinds of philosophies, in which I really enjoyed since I learned about what I connect best with which was Humanism.  By learning about Humanism, it really helped me to articulate to myself of how I want to approach myself as a guidance counselor in the future which is really wonderful because if anything, I think that this really solidified my decision on the fact that this is what I want my future career to be!

Thanks for a wonderful semester!!!
